Power Mapping

Once you have assessed your community readiness, media and stakeholder relationships, determine the gaps and how you will address them.

Now it’s time to create a campaign plan.  While there are plenty of tools out there to assist in creating a plan, one of our favorite starting points is power mapping. Power Mapping is a framework for problem solving, often used for public policy advocacy initiatives. It is a process is used to determine who needs to be influenced and exactly who can influence them for change. Power Mapping is highly strategic, and requires research and networking. Once you have mapped who is essential to support and address the problem, then you can create a campaign plan.

You can find the Power Mapping Guide and more resources in the Commons Social Change Library.  The Commons curates and distributes educational resources on campaign strategy, community organizing, digital campaigning, communications and more.
